About Me

Experience Working with Children

My love for working with kids started early—I was part of the opening team at Build-A-Bear Workshop in London, where I led children through the fun and structured process of bringing their stuffed animals to life. From there, I worked in childcare centers and before-and-after school programs, helping children explore their creativity through hands-on learning. I’ve also spent years volunteering with the Kiwanis Music Festival, gaining valuable experience in music education and performance preparation.

This background helps me connect with my students in a way that makes them feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. I listen closely, adapt to different learning styles, and find creative ways to explain concepts—because every child deserves a teacher who meets them where they are.

Why I Teach

After studying piano as a major at the University of Western Ontario, I took a long hiatus from playing. But something always felt missing. When my own children were ready to start learning, I had a realization—"Why should they learn from anyone else when I can teach them myself?" That was the spark that brought me back to the piano.

Sitting down to play again, I felt the same deep love for music that had shaped me as a child. I knew I never wanted to stop again. Now, I’m excited to share that passion with my students, helping them develop a lifelong love for music just as my second teacher did for me.

I’d love to help your child develop a love for piano in a fun, structured, and engaging way. Whether they’re just starting out or looking to refine their skills, I’ll meet them where they are and help them grow.

Helping Students Fall in Love with Music

Hi! I’m Zabrina Jackson, and I’ve been immersed in music since I was five years old. My journey started at the Royal Conservatory of Music in London, Ontario, but it wasn’t always smooth. My first teacher made lessons feel like a chore, and I dreaded them—until my mom found a teacher who changed everything. She took the time to understand what I loved, igniting my passion for music before focusing on technique. That experience shaped my entire philosophy as a teacher: music should be joyful, inspiring, and a part of who you are.

I want my students to feel the same excitement I do when I sit at the piano. Music tells stories without words, it stirs deep emotions, and it connects us in ways nothing else can. I love the way playing the piano engages the mind, body, and soul all at once. That’s why my teaching approach blends structured learning with creativity and fun, ensuring every student finds their own connection to music.

A Teaching Approach That Adapts to Every Child

Every student is unique, and I tailor my lessons to match their individual needs and interests. I focus on the fundamentals of posture, scales, and music theory, but I also incorporate:

🎵 Music they love – Learning is most exciting when students play pieces that inspire them.
🎵 Repertoire from the RCM Syllabus – For students who want to prepare for exams and performances.
🎵 Engaging activities for young learners – Rhythm sticks, movement exercises, and fun games to make learning stick.

I believe in a balanced approach—helping students develop strong technical skills while also encouraging creativity, expression, and performance confidence. Whether a student dreams of playing for personal enjoyment, preparing for exams, or performing at festivals like the Kiwanis Music Festival, I provide the guidance and encouragement they need to succeed.
